Syleham,has a really old church with a round tower, located down a causeway. It has been known as Kings Way as Henry II is believed to have accepted submission from Hugh Bigod, Earl of Norfolk, for the surrender of Bungay and Framlingham Castles,at Syleham Cross in July 1174. The Millennium was marked by reinstating the cross on its original site.
Nearby Monks Hall is an old hunting lodge used by the monks of Thetford Priory. further along the River Waveney the site of the water mill,in the valley by the toll bridge to Brockdish, there was a thriving garment factory. A source of employment for the village and a reminder of the flax growing industry. The mill is now converted into a dwelling, and the factory site accommodates four houses built at the turn of the 21st century
